We are seeking a Strategic Initiatives Manager to lead project oversight and ensure alignment of SCINet initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize SCINet’s high-performance network infrastructure.
- Manage SD-WAN and IP routing between Internet2 and commodity Internet connections.
- Collaborate daily with GlobalNOC and OmniSOC to ensure optimal network performance and security.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues across multiple sites, ensuring high availability for scientific research.
- Implement network security measures and ensure compliance with federal standards.
- Maintain network documentation and contribute to the integration of emerging technologies.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of program/project management experience.
- Proven experience with maintaining and revising a RACI document.
- Background in scientific computing, IT environments, or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience managing network engineering projects, scientific research projects, customer communications, agile project management, assigning resources to proactively accomplish workloads.
- Experience working in scientific computing and research environments required.
Preferred: USDA experience; PMP Certification; Bachelor’s degree
Senior Network Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support the USDA SCINet high-performance computing network. You will ensure network reliability and security across multiple ARS sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize SCINet’s high-performance network infrastructure.
- Manage SD-WAN and IP routing between Internet2 and commodity Internet connections.
- Collaborate daily with GlobalNOC and OmniSOC to ensure optimal network performance and security.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues across multiple sites, ensuring high availability for scientific research.
- Implement network security measures and ensure compliance with federal standards.
- Maintain network documentation and contribute to the integration of emerging technologies.
Requirements:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven track record in configuring and managing routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and services (AWS, Azure).
- Experience with network virtualization technologies (VMware NSX, Cisco ACI).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- 8+ years of network engineering experience, with a background in high-performance computing or large-scale networks.
- Familiarity with SD-WAN, advanced routing, and network security protocols.
- Strong collaboration skills with internal teams and external partners (e.g., Internet2 and ARS locations).
- Must be located in the Washington, D.C. area, with the ability to work on-site as needed.
